National volunteer: Community exchange programme 

Role

- Work directly with non-government organizations or community-based organizations
- Assigned to "hands-on" tasks at district, village, or community levels
- Expected to live and work closely with peers and counterparts
- Initial contract: 3 months ~ 2 years (extendable up to 4 years)
 

Requirements to be a candidate

- At least 21 years old (no maximum age limit)
- High school degree or higher
- Fluent in Mongolian
- Good working knowledge in English is a plus
- Work experience relevant to the assignment is a plus
 

Recruitment process

- Host agency formulates the Description of Assignment
- UNV Mongolia office advertises the post in local newspapers, websites (UNV Mongolia, UNDP Mongolia, UN Mongolia), etc. 
- Candidates send applications to the UNV Mongolia office
- Host agency and UNV Mongolia office shortlists the candidates
- Host agency and UNV Mongolia office conducts interviews
- Host agency makes the final selection
 

National volunteer: General

Role

- Serve at national or provincial levels
- Supervisory and/or managerial responsibilities 
- Transfer of skills
- Initial contract: 3 months ~ 2 years (extendable up to 4 years)
 

Requirements to be a candidate

- At least 25 years old (no maximum age limit)
- University degree or higher
- Fluent in Mongolian
- Good working knowledge in English is a plus 
- Work experience relevant to the assignment is a plus
 

Recruitment process

- Same as National UNV Community Exchange Programme
 

International volunteers

Role

- Serve at national or provincial levels
- Supervisory and/or managerial responsibilities 
- Transfer of skills
- Initial contract: 3 months ~ 2 years (extendable up to 4 years) 
 

Requirements to be a candidate

- At least 25 years old (no maximum age limit)
- University degree or higher technical diploma 
- At least two years of relevant work experience
- Good working knowledge in at least one of the UNV working languages: English, French, Spanish
- Strong commitment to the values and principles of volunteerism
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
- Ability to adjust to difficult living conditions
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Prior volunteering and/or work experience in a developing country is a plus
 

Recruitment process

- Host agency formulates the Description of Assignment 
- UNV office sends the Description of Assignment to UNV headquarters 
- UNV headquarters searches the roster of candidates *
- UNV headquarters sends the long list of candidates to the host agency
- Host agency shortlists the candidates
- Host agency and UNV headquarters conduct telephone interviews with the shortlisted candidates
- Host agency makes the final selection

Benefits of serving as a UN Volunteer

Benefits of serving as a UN Volunteer are not measured in monetary terms. Foremost, it is the personal and professional satisfaction the assignment brings to the UN Volunteer. However, due to the high qualifications expected of UN Volunteers, and in order to cover basic living costs, the following benefits are granted: 

-Monthly volunteer living allowance intended to cover basic living expenses, such as accommodation (accommodation will not be provided by UNV)

-Settling-in-Grant (paid at the beginning of the assignment), if the duty station is different from the place of recruitment  

-Travel expenditure at the beginning and end of the assignment (including local transportation and transportation of baggage), if the duty station is different from the place of recruitment 

-Life, health, and permanent disability insurance while serving as a UN Volunteer

-Annual leave (2.5 days for every completed month of service)

-Resettlement allowance (calculated by the duration of the assignment), paid upon satisfactory completion of the assignment.
